What is Android Market ?

You can download free and commercial applications. It is also possible to note and comment. In September 2011, there were over 520,000 applications on Android Market, of which 65% are free.
Applications are in Java and can be distributed other than through the Android Market. To simplify application development, Google has developed a web interface: App Inventor to easily develop an application that will then be available on the Android Market. This service is now closed since August 2011.

Archos AppsLib independent service can also download and install applications on its shelves.
Sony PlayStation Suite offers the service that lets you download video games certified by the company only for devices running Gingerbread.

The Free Software Foundation has meanwhile created the F-droid (Android FOSS repository), a free market, containing only free applications, free and open source.
